It’s National Voter Registration Day!September 22, 2020
Today is National Voter Registration Day and we take voting very seriously. One of our core values at Blackbird is that cannabis should be legal. We believe in the healing power of the plant and in the potential of the industry. In order for every adult to have safe and reliable access to cannabis, and in order for us to do our jobs every day, a lot of people throughout the history of this country have had to vote. Many of them had to vote in elections at times that seemed it seemed impossible to see the change they wanted. They had to fight against systems that seemed impossible to change and to shift.
And yet after decades of fighting and pushing, laws eventually changed and cannabis was legalized; allowing us to create this amazing business and to participate in this powerful industry. We know that voting has the power to change the world because we wouldn’t be here if it didn’t. We believe that this year may be the most important elections of our lives. Our industry is at a turning-point; we have proven to be essential to states across the country. We need leadership who will support our budding industry and work with us toward full decriminalization, legalization, and the inclusion of communities most disproportionately impacted by the racist War on Drugs.
If you haven’t already, please take a moment today to register to vote. Ensure your address is accurate and up-to-date. The upcoming election is certain to be filled with layers upon layers of complications as our communities continue to be vigilant in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
Protect your community and those around you by staying informed and being engaged in our social and political processes. Blackbird will continue to provide resources for you to find. Information on voting in your area. Please consider supporting the Last Prisoner Project by donating directly to them here or by purchasing an item from our Be Good People store. The Last Prisoner Project is dedicated to getting every person incarcerated for cannabis out of the system and helping them get their lives back.
